So happy to be writing another letter to one of my babies in this month’s blog circle. Last month, I wrote my first letter to my sweet girl. This time, I’m writing to my first born. My beautiful baby boy. Though, at 6, he is far from a baby these days.
Hi Bug —
I’m so lucky to be your mamma. I started calling you by this nickname the day you were born. I was smitten beyond reason with your little face, hands and feet. And, of course, thought you were the most handsome being I had ever seen. I was recently reminded of your wonderful babyhood and silliness when we found those tapes from our old video camera. It was so fun to watch them with you and hear you giggling at your own earlier antics.
After watching the videos, I had to go back to the archives and go through some of the pictures we took in your first couple of months. Here are a few of my favorites (taken before I knew how to really use a camera π ) — I vividly remember when and where each of these were taken.
You have always been my wise and conscientious buddy — so much like your daddy. I love that about you. And it warms my heart to see how much you love your little sister. Even at just 6 years old, you’re a wonderful role model for her. And it’s evident she loves you beyond words right back. I’m not saying you don’t have your sibling rivalry moments, ’cause you do. But they quickly pass and you become best friends again. I hope it’s always like that.
I have a wish for you: don’t ever be afraid to work hard for what you want. You are smart, but there is so much to learn and learning takes effort. This will always be true. I know it can seem daunting, but it is so worth it — knowledge is power!
I am so proud of the little boy you have become and am so excited to continue to watch you learn and grow. I love you so much!
Love always,
Your Mamma

Love. Just love. My early snapshots of Avery are just like yours, but they are priceless. And look at what kind of photos you can take of your kids now. Wowzas!
Love that you shared some earlier images too! Love the message of your letter. β€
All the photos are special but that last one is especially wonderful.
Such beautiful words! He sounds like such an amazing boy. I love the early pictures, so fun o see! I love the sunglasses picture, too cute!
LOVE that shot on the bed of your son! Great job!
What a beautiful letter, Davina. Looking at older pictures makes you appreciate how far you have come in your photography, doesn’t it? I love the last pic. π
Wow look how your little man has grown! Incredible how time just flies! Beautiful letters and lovely images (every single one!)
Love! It sounds like you have a really great kid. I love the composition of the last photo because you can see that he’s physically so much bigger than as a baby, but he’s still curled up like a little kid in mom and dad’s bed. π
